Why iPhone?

Iphone
Some people say Sneak has an unhealthy obsession with Bits and Bytes and should really get out more. Well, to be perfectly honest, these people obviously didn't bear witness to the horrifyingly vivid sight of several hundred uber-geeks queueing down Regent Street last week, to get their filthy little mits on an iPhone. Yes, for the low, low price of £269 plus a compulsory 18 month O2 contract which will rack up another £600 +, you too could own the most over-hyped piece of technology since the Sinclair C5 … oh, alright, since just about ever.

Between you and Sneak though, however beautiful it looks, Sneak's advice is to hang tight to your filthy lucre and, unless you’re the hardest of die hard iPhiles, wait until Apple rivals bring out their own versions of this new design classic. Just like the iPod, the market will soon be saturated with a multitude of imitators – some may even, shock horror, be better than the original…

Having never purchased anything from Apple as being a dedicated PC guy, I shuddered when i first used one 15+ years ago and using one a bit more recently confused me with the single mouse button. Some people rock on about ipods and such, but how new is the iPhone really? Yeah, it plays mp3's, movies, and you can use it as a phone too. As a manager of an IT department, I like to 'trial' hardware, I've had devices that done this sort of thing and more for years now. Yes they may not be as glossy, but they perfom the task. Maybe Apple have the edge at the moment with the "i" brand, but it won't last for ever.

There's no need to wait for other manufacturers to bring out phones that can stand head to head with the iPhone, they are here, now. I would take the N95 over the iPhone, anyday. In fact you could choose from many an NSeries phone, I would put my N73 up against the iPhone feature for feature right now. I went into a store at the weekend, and after less than two minutes, the sales guy was telling me the iPhone had a really cool calculator! If that is the best the iPhone can offer after two minutes, you can keep it. The touch screen interface is nothing special (yes, I have tried the phone) but if you *must* have touchscreen, there is always the Sony Ericsson W960i.
